i wish i were good at something. i'm a half-boiled medicre egg. jack of all trades, master of none. not even a jack of all trades. im not even a good person. =(
i found my primary school friend's blog today (http://www.mistersun.org/#songs). she writes, composes and sings her own songs and her voice is amazing. check it out.
things left to do for the semester: 12 prints 1 portfolio review 4 exhibit reviews 2 anthropology essays, 6 pages total 1 journal entry
cherie, shel, remember where we ordered our first (i think) alcoholic drinks?
father flanagan's at chijmes. strawberry daiquiris and mango margaritas. we were underaged too! =X i remember the waiter putting his finger to his mouth when he overheard us letting our secret out.
its closing down. they are having a 'drink the pub dry day' on april 21st.
we havent been there since.. i don't know when... but it certainly holds good memories. we had our 'meet-the-boy' sessions, chinese new year outing, random friday dinner outings there.
business school is usually all about money. strategies to reduce cost and increase revenues, understanding the consumer to market to them better, managing your employees so you can get more value out of them.
today's lesson was completely different.
trip co-teaches the entrepreneurship class and he's got a wealth of entrepreneurial experience. in summing up the class, he gave us three key take-aways. when he got to the last one, he projected an image on the screen. it was a note from is oldest daughter (who was about 8):
dear trip, you said you would be dun at 4:30. love, isabel eloise nicol. ps: we ar sad.
i felt a tug on my heartstrings n my eyes welled up with tears.
despite all the entrepreneurial strategies you can learn, if you screw up your personal life, you basically screw it up all. sustainable commitment. that's the most important lesson of all.
things have been a lull around here. im not allowed to do anything fun until im done with the GRE, my consumer behavior final paper, and entrepreneurship final presentation - april 6, april 16, april 16. after that, im pretty much done for the semester.. but i first have to survive till then. =( some hugs and lots of love for me please.
last week was eat-a-lot week...
leekeong cooked up a feast on wednesday: tomato luncheon meat, panfried salmon, seafood omelette, cabbage and minced meat tofu. a simple meal that was probably one of the best meals ive had in a while firstly because it was homecooked and secondly because it was darn good regardless.
core group had a mixer with the irc boys on thursday and we had a cookout competition. although we didnt win i got to have some yummilicious pancakes with creme fraiche and raspberries, and colombian(?) pizza.
lunch on friday was at the carving board, a little sandwich parlour run by a husband and wife team. the wife is the sweetest thing who calls everyone 'dear'. the food was simple and delish - i shared a crab melt sandwich and sesame asian salad with ruyi. for dinner, i had a bread roll from albermarle baking company (been wanting to try something from there for the longest time!) and a black and white cake(chocolate and cheese) from hotcakes. then i joined the others at limeleaf where i picked at thai beef fried rice, phad thai and mango sticky rice.
after watching the pursuit of happyness on saturday, we went to mas. it's a fancy tapas restaurant just after the downtown mall, with a great chill ambience. we waited an hour for the table but the food made it worth it. i had sangria, and we shared gambas with grey sea salt and garlic aioli, roasted butternut squash with wildoat honey, cheese and apricot preserve on brioche, lemon cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake. the prawns were succulent, ilovebutternutsquash, the sweet and savory of the apricot and cheese complemented each other perfect, lemon cheesecake was a little weird for me cos they used goat cheese, and the chocolate was so rich it was bordering on the fine line between too good and not good (?).
the week was completed with sunday brunch at blue moon diner, an inconspicuous shopspace along main street. it was simple food made fancy. we shared cinnamon french toast with vanilla ginger sauce, a burger with sauteed mushrooms and melted cheese served with a side of sweet potato fries, and salmon fritters. oooh.
sleepytoes wake up to kiss the sun flipflops patter on the sidewalk faces are sunburnt and smiley girls wear their boehmian skirts and picnic on the grass leggy legs no longer hide underneath denim pinks and yellows and whites dot the green grass the once-bare branches are now dressed with blossoms and buds birds sing their best tunes

a random trip to wholefoods and i ended up with strawberries, fresh ground almond butter, carob coated almonds, and chocolate coated espresso beans. ooooohh =P
i have a problem. ive bought fourteen pairs of shoes since coming to charlottesville. they range from 97cents to 120buckaroos; from old navy, kmart, anonymous brands, nine west, steve madden and uggs. 1 pair of flipflops, 2 pairs of sneakers, 4 pairs of ballet flats, 1 pair of opentoed wedgey, 4 pairs of heels and 1 pair of boots.
arranged according to date of purchase (one pair is back home, thus not featured)
and still, i dont have the right pair for every occasion and outfit (even though i think i have more shoes than clothes). a girl can never have too many shoes!
so i dont know if this is considered plagarism, but here's how my sister was proposed to:
"so we started out on the 14th at Changi village having tim sum with moet at a road side stall which i thought was incredibly romantic with chicken feet and fatty roast duck and a cannotstuffanymoredownmythroat meal. and the next day was supposed to be a suprise. i didn't know where i was going, but i just went along, with a tiny suitcase all packed with essentials in case we had to camp over night in the wild. i didn't know right. he shuffled us from changi to sentosa, to cafe del mar for magarita's and boston beach parties which couldn't get me high. then to the sentosa spa & resort, and i was like, wow what is happening. then dinner at the cliff with the beautiful view and sunset, which still was terribly disappointing because WE can cook BETTER than that. and yet another bottle of champagne that made me feel like throwing up. And we waited so long for dessert (which was apparently part of the plan), we just HAD to go for a walk or else I'd have torn the whole restaurant down. in the midst of whining and keeping the champagne down and wondering where dessert is and walking and walking and complaning that the wet ground was destroying my suede shoes (yes i whine.) he got down on one knee and said all he had to say. I've never heard jem stutter before, but he did. he'd never not counterwhine my whinings before but he kept silent. and he surely had never gotten down on one knee before. but in a jiffy, i was engaged and i had a ring and i wanted dessert and MORE champagne."
no, i still don't have washboard abs, nor sculpted arms and legs. in fact, i have been gaining weight exponentially.
but i am getting stronger and i think that's pretty neat to be able to see (or at least, feel) a change! i used to DIE doing two sets of reps, but now i've increased the weight, AND i can do three sets with (some) ease. also, there's this thing (stance? not really.. exercise? not really) where u go into a raised push-up position and then slowly lower yourself until you are just hovering above the ground. at the beginning, i couldn't even begin to think about doing it. but i am certainly making progress. makes me feel good.
so beware, don't offend me or you will suffer the wrath of my invincible (or invisible) muscles.
i havent been reading the bible religiously (pardon the pun), but core group on wednesdays serves as such a strong reminder that God is faithful and that He is in charge. it's the one time of during the week that i feel at peace and carefree.
God said to Moses, "I AM who I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.'" Exodus 3:14
For the spirit is breath, and breath, the spirit. With each breath we take, we say God's name. He is with us, and in us.
im going to new orleans (instead of honduras, or chicago) for spring break!
and on another separate note,
i've made a list of things i want to do before i graduate: Visit: Philadelphia, Chicago Luray Caverns Skyline Drive Humpback Rock Tubing Eat at Bang, Mas Picnic on the Lawn Cook nice big dinner Road trip! Watch people streak
in a society that promotes liberty and freedom and that allows its civilians to own arms, a different culture exists on the playgrounds. paranoia and fear shroud parents today and prohibit their children to play with toy guns, or with other children who own such toys.
in a washington post article i read today, the reporter recounted several instances of children being charged for terrorist threats, or suspended from school, because they possessed such "violent weapons".
In New Jersey, an 8-year-old boy used an L-shaped piece of paper in a game of cops and robbers during recess. School officials called the police, saying the child had threatened "to kill other students" by saying "pow pow" on the playground.
In Texas, a 13-year-old girl was suspended and transferred to a school for problem kids after she brought a butter knife to school with her lunch. Her parents had packed the dull knife so that she could cut her apple to make it easier to eat because she wore braces.
In Arkansas, an 8-year-old boy was punished for pointing a cooked chicken strip at another student and saying "pow, pow, pow."
It's absurdity really, but who can blame them for their fears when their country is constantly rubbing off wrongly with nations. We should just label all things sword or gunlike as weapons of mass destruction.

kid runs over to dad and asks dad to help him with his numbers. kid holds out his two hands and says, "test me on my numbers up to ten!" dad says "whats 2 plus 6?" kid replies, staring at his fingers, "8!" dad says "what's 8 plus 2?" kid answers "10!" dad says "what's 10 plus 2?" kid stares really hard at his hands and says with a frown "i can't answer that..." dad says "why not?" kid says "i'd need to have twelve fingers."
