s crewd river

when you aren't capable of great big things, it's ok because not everyone has talent in all areas.

but when you can't even get the small things right, then you're just useless. right?

it's a dangerous world out there

the people are starting to return. slowly, but surely. n it's making me stressed. i feel the pressures of the last semester of school building up.

should i join a new activity this semester?
should i get a job?
will i do well enough on my gre to get approval to do my masters?
will i be accepted by the school?
will my grades be good enough this semester?
should i go on an extended holiday or get an internship?
what happens next?

and all this just makes me want to hide.

alice in wonderland

whenever i get engrossed in a book, my emotions get intertwined with those of the characters. for the time that im reading the book, the story becomes my reality.

these few days, i walk down the hallway and in my head i pretend to have a gun in hand, easing along the walls to remain inconspicuous, half expecting people to jump out from the rooms or the windows or from around the corner. every turn of the door handle is made possible because of some secret code that i have, or a special device that helps me unlock doors. carrying my pots and bowls to the kitchen is a delicate act of balance that requires the agility of a spy. each phone call i make is to my handler, or my partner, providing them with updates on my mission. i wonder if people will climb in through my window when i sleep at night.

no more alias after this disc.

resolutions

so i never stick to my new year resolutions. and i never make them anyway. but i thought, its good to reflect on the past year to see what went wrong and what went right. and to set goals for the new year.

2006 - i think emotions and adventure sum up last year. it was an emotional rollercoaster, buckets of tears and peals of laughter. adventure-wise, beyond the advent travelling that i did, i think it was an adventure in life too. new experiences, new perspectives. not necessarily good or bad, but certainly eye-opening. i think i grew up, but i also developed an attitude towards life that only uninhibited children, and a few certain childlike adults, have.

2007 - this is going to be a year of choices, i think. with some real growing up to do. i hope i dont lose my new found sense of spontaneity though. i'd like to live recklessly and impulsively for a while more. just to see where it leads me to. but at the same time, i need to stop procrastinating, and start preparing ahead of time instead of doing things last minute. i can still plan, but be impulsive right? and i think i need to save my judgments for myself and be more open to other people's ideas. i can be stubborn. very stubborn.

we'll see ;)

crossroads

right now, i feel like im at a huge juncture in my life, with no idea what lies ahead in each direction. Lord, please show me the way.

hermit

the past week was spent hiding in my room. hibernation and self-destruction are my ways of dealing with stress and sadness. then, i just became lazy and anti-social. i hear voices down the hall (like, from real people and not in my head) and i get annoyed. i've survived the past week interacting with only one real person, sort of.

but today, the sun is shining, and i am going to crawl out of my hideyhole. off for a run, and then to get my GRE book so that i can study. gosh! the thought of being so hardworking is almost making me so tired that i wanna go back under my covers and snooze for somemore. just kidding!

the sixth sense

the art in the MoMA was abstract, and very hard to understand. it's easy to appreciate a piece of monet, or degas, even without having had a lesson in art history. i like monet's impressionism and degas' ballerinas because they make pretty paintings. maybe there's more to it that is lost on the amatuer eye, but the uninformed can still appreciate it for what it is on the surface. modern art on the other hand, takes a little more effort to view. anybody can paint a canvas blue. i dont think the artist uses a special brush stroke to apply the paint. but how is a blue canvas a piece of art if that's all there is to it? thus, modern art is more consuming and mind boggling. i was exhausted just after three hours in moma, though i no doubt enjoyed what i saw. thinking about it, i came to the conclusion that art is not just another language; but in order to appreciate it we need a sixth sense. because if art were a language, it had to be communicated and interpreted in the same way all the time. but a few bold strokes of the brush could be understood differently by various audiences, and could be intended to convey different messages if painted by different artists. each and every piece of work is beautiful in its own way, but whether or not we see it depends on how in tune our sixth sense is.

chris and i have this thing we do - whenever we have good food together, we will try to describe what we taste, so that we understand how each other interprets the wine, or the piece of salmon, or the cheesecake. this sensory experience goes beyond the taste buds, it engages the person's background, experiences, character, and so in understanding how one tastes the food, we also understand more about each other. the wine was elegant and fleeting; the scallops, exquisite and vivacious; and the cheesecake, existential. this white chocolate drink with lavendar and lemon tasted like spring. and perhaps in doing so, we are engaging our sixth sense, to sense the beauty in the delicacy.
